Enthusiastic editor and writer, who has just completed a postgraduate diploma in magazine journalism at Cardiff University.  A reliable freelance writer, with a substantial amount of published work.

RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE

FREELANCE WRITER

• CAMBRIA magazine
• A culture and lifestyle magazine for Wales
• April 2010 (ongoing)

Key achievements:

• Solving a production emergency on a three week placement with the magazine by using my Indesign skills to create 72 pages, ensuring deadlines were met and saving the publishers substantial extra production costs
• Proving to be an enthusiastic and invaluable team member thereby securing ongoing paid employment

FEATURES EDITOR

• Re:new magazine
• Cardiff University postgraduate student magazine
• January 2010 – April 2010

Key achievements:

• In depth research into feature ideas and conducting extensive interviews, for print and online
• Becoming efficient at Indesign, Photoshop, and iMovie video editing. As well as learning basic HTML to add content to CMS website
• Learning key online optimisation skills, while creating a network of potential readers through social media

EDITOR

• Carmarthenshire Life magazine
• A community magazine for the county

Key achievements:

• Successfully re-launching the magazine in terms of editorial and design, consequently increasing sales by 10% within two issues
• Substantially increasing the communication with readers, becoming aware of the readers needs and addressing them
• Organising the production process and ensuring that each deadline was met
• Compiling a business plan setting out how the magazine is to develop over the next two years

INTERESTS

I love to travel, having independently visited countries throughout Europe, as well as Asia, Samoa, New Zealand, Australia and North America. This has given me the incredible opportunity to see some of the most impressive wildlife within the natural world; from spotting long-tailed macaques whilst trekking through Taman Negar national park in Malaysia, to holding a baby wild boar while working on banana farm in Australia. This has also allowed me to improve my wildlife photography.

I enjoy trekking and cycling, and I am currently training to take part in a half marathon. I am an avid theatregoer and as my degree shows I love literature. As a keen pianist I have a passion for music and I also enjoy designing and making clothes.
